Maxxis Assegai 27.5 x 2.5 WT DH TR 3C MaxxGrip tyre
Maxxis Assegai WT 650B Downhill Folding
For two years, Greg Minnaar worked with Maxxis engineers to bring the Assegai to market. Undoubtedly, Greg Minnaar is one of the most dominant and successful downhill riders in the World Cup. Greg is remarkably consistent and versatile - a podium contender for any track, whether steep and technical or flat and supple. Simply put, Greg is fast everywhere.
"My idea was to design a tire from the best Maxxis profiles. I started in the middle with a combination of Minion DHF and Minion DHR II. The reason for that was that the surface of the DHF rolls well and keeps super on hardpack, greasy bends and wet roots and rocks. The DHR II rolls much better and can brake more aggressively.
Such a strong tire needs a strong name, so Greg decided to christen his signature profile Assegai. As a native South African, the name simply fits with the same roots.
"I wanted a name that sounds sharp and aggressive, so I decided to call my tire Assegai! The Assegai is a traditional spear of the Zulu warriors. The Zulu are a traditional tribe in the region of South Africa where I was born and grew up. "

3C MaxxGrip: delivers ultimate grip and low rebound for unique traction in downhill racing. At MAXXIS, the 3C tread is formed from 3 different rubber compounds in one piece and is not subsequently assembled from two strips. Therefore, the treads can be formed exactly according to the requirements of the respective tire model and thus the driving characteristics are optimized.
Dual Ply: is an extra rubber layer in the sidewall of the downhill tire that prevents punctures and protects the rim.
Tubeless Ready: Tubeless tires have many advantages: you can drive with less air pressure and thus have better traction, the rolling resistance is lower than with hose, and where there is no hose, the risk of breakdown also decreases. MAXXIS TR tires are better prepared for installation with sealing milk than other Tubeless Ready tires, because the bead of our TR tires is completely covered with a rubber layer like a real UST tubeless tire. As a result, tubeless fitting on all rims that meet the standard dimensions is successful with initial inflation and low fluidity. Even normal MAXXIS MTB tires can be mounted like other tubeless tires with sealant as the carcass fabrics are very dense. Officially released for tubeless installation and guaranteed by MAXXIS but only the new MAXXIS TR models, the tubeless mounting of other models is at your own risk.
Wide Trail Casing (WT): This design optimizes the profile layout and tire shape on today's wider wheel rims. Traditional tires are designed for narrower rims and get on too wide rims a square shape and thus a not exactly optimal performance. WT tires are optimized for an inner rim width of 35 mm, but work perfectly on all rims with an internal dimension of 30 - 40 mm. Applies to tires with a width from 2.4 ".
